Resumen

El suroeste de Mississippi es una región escasamente estudiada, pero biológicamente diversa, que abarca la amplia transición del ecosistema de pino azul de tallo largo de la llanura costera del este del golfo a los ricos bosques de frondosas de los acantilados y colinas de Loess. Se realizó un inventario florístico de un área natural privada de aproximadamente 694,7 hectáreas en el condado de Lincoln. Fair River Farm está situada en una región de terreno muy disecado alrededor de Little Fair River y Kees Creek, cerca de la transición entre dos ecorregiones importantes de nivel III y el límite entre las cuencas de drenaje del río Pearl y la parte baja del río Mississippi. Se documentaron 744 taxones de plantas vasculares y 72 briófitos. 495 taxones son nuevos en el condado de Lincoln y 3 son nuevos en el estado de Mississippi; 27 especies están designadas ’de interés especial’ por el Programa de Patrimonio Natural de Mississippi, 13 están en la lista de vigilancia y 14 están en la lista de seguimiento. Los registros fotográficos disponibles en iNaturalist se utilizan para algunas especies como alternativa a los comprobantes físicos. Las comunidades de plantas presentes en el tramo se discuten y se comparan breve y cualitativamente con los registros de la Oficina General de Tierras, los levantamientos originales del suelo del condado y las descripciones históricas de la región, con énfasis en la distribución del pino de hoja larga (Pinus palustris Mill.), ahora muy raro en el transecto La cantidad de registros del condado destaca la necesidad de más trabajo de estudio y la diversidad biológica y el valor de conservación potencialmente subestimados de la región suroeste de Mississippi y otras áreas escasamente recolectadas del sureste de los EE. UU.; este inventario puede informar las decisiones de manejo de la tierra en el tramo y en otras partes de la región.
