Vickianthus, a new genus of the Vernonieae (Compositae) from Mexico

Resumen

La tribu Vernonieae (Compositae), morfológicamente diversa y distribuida globalmente, ha tenido una larga historia taxonómica en la que la mayoría de sus taxones terminaron siendo incluidos en el género “central,” Vernonia Schreb. Los estudios filogenéticos recientes que utilizan datos de secuencias de ADN están comenzando a separar esta complicada “tribu malvada” y brindan una mejor comprensión de las relaciones morfológicas subyacentes en su interior. Con el fuerte apoyo de un estudio filogenético molecular reciente de Vernonieae en todo su rango geográfico, en este artículo se examinan diez especies mexicanas de Vernonia y Vernonanthura y se ubican en un nuevo género, Vickianthus.
