Después de un cuidadoso estudio de especímenes en un rango amplio y una revisión de la bibliografía taxonómica, hemos determinado que Dichanthelium hirstii (Swallen) Kartesz es taxonómicamente válido en el rango específico, y es un miembro distintivo de este género complejo.
